Buying a farm or farmland in the UK

Farms and farmland for sale in the UK are sold in a market that moves quietly: much of it changes hands through agents' private lists, neighbours and auctions before any public listing. Land quality, drainage, access, and any tenancies in place matter as much as acreage.

Register the farm or farmland you want, the counties and your budget, and we email you the day a matching farm is listed. Sellers can check how many buyers match their farm before they advertise.

Farms for sale: your questions

How do I find a farm or farmland for sale in the UK?
Listing sites show what is for sale today. AgLand works the other way round: tell us once what you want, where and for how much, and we email you the day a matching farm is listed by an owner or agent. Registering is free.
How many buyers are looking for a farm or farmland in the UK?
637 confirmed buyers on AgLand want a farm or farmland, and 67 of them will buy anywhere in the UK. The county pages show who is looking where.
What do buyers spend on a farm or farmland?
The median top budget across the UK is £195,000. Half of the 623 buyers who gave a budget top out between £60,000 and £500,000. These are the most each buyer says they will spend, not sale prices, and they vary a lot by county.
What is the difference between a working farm and farmland?
A working farm is a going concern: land, buildings and usually a house, often with stock and equipment. Farmland is the land alone, sold with vacant possession or subject to a tenancy. Buyers on AgLand can register for either or both.
Is farmland a good investment?
We don't give investment advice. What we can say is what buyers here are looking for and what they will spend, county by county, and that farmland has tax rules of its own: our guides cover agricultural property relief and capital gains.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. Registering and connecting with a seller are both free for buyers, and your name and contact details stay private until you choose to connect.
